Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 24, 2026
Velo is an on-device RSVP speed reading app for iPhone. This policy explains what stays on your device, the single network request Velo makes when you import a web page, and how to control or delete your data. Velo has no servers of its own, no account, and no analytics.
Plain-English summary
- Velo has no accounts, no login, and no email collection, and it does not sell or share your personal information.
- Your documents, reading position, stats, streaks, and settings are stored only on your device.
- Velo has no analytics or tracking SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.
- The only network call Velo makes is fetching a web page you explicitly ask it to import; the article is parsed to text on your device.
- Camera access is used solely for on-device OCR when you scan pages; no photo or scan is transmitted.
- Apple processes any Velo Unlimited purchases. Velo does not receive your identity or payment details.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy applies to the Velo mobile app for iOS (iPhone), its Velo Unlimited purchase features, and these public support pages.
Velo is a Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) speed reader. It flashes your text one word at a time with the Optimal Recognition Point letter pinned in place, so you can read from 100 to 1000 words per minute. You bring your own reading — pasted text, PDFs, EPUBs, web articles, and camera scans — and Velo lets you explore the document, resume precisely, and track stats such as words read, time saved, streak, and personal-best speed.
Velo does not create user accounts and does not operate a cloud database for your reading. Your documents, progress, and settings are stored locally on your device. Velo runs its reading, import parsing, and OCR on-device.
2. Short Summary
| Accounts | Velo does not require account creation, login, or an email address. |
|---|---|
| Ads and tracking | Velo shows no third-party ads and includes no analytics or tracking SDKs. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected." |
| Local app data | Imported documents, reading position, stats, streaks, personal-best WPM, themes, and settings are stored only on your device. |
| Network use | The only network request is fetching a web page you choose to import. The page is parsed to article text on your device and nothing is sent back out. |
| Camera | Used only for on-device OCR when you scan pages. Scans and photos are not transmitted. |
| Payments | Apple processes App Store payments for Velo Unlimited. Velo does not receive your payment card number or identity. |
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Velo is on-device by design, so the app works without an account. Your data is stored locally using standard iOS storage (such as SwiftData and the app's file container). Local data can include:
- Documents you import — pasted text, PDFs, EPUBs, saved web articles, and scanned pages — and the extracted text Velo reads from.
- Your reading position and progress in each document, so you can resume precisely.
- Reading statistics, including words read, estimated time saved versus your baseline, reading streak, and personal-best words-per-minute.
- Preferences such as reading speed, smart-pause and haptic settings, theme (Paper, Warm, Dark, OLED Black), and font choice.
- Onboarding status and other local app settings.
If you uninstall Velo, iOS normally removes the app's local data. Device backups controlled by Apple or your device settings may include local app data.
4. Importing a Web Page
When you choose to import a web article, Velo makes a standard network request to the URL you provide in order to download that page. This is the only situation in which Velo uses the network.
- The request goes directly from your device to the website you asked to import, so that site (and its network) can see the request as it would for any browser.
- The downloaded HTML is parsed into readable article text entirely on your device.
- Velo does not send your document, reading data, or the extracted text to any Velo server — Velo operates no server of its own.
- Only import pages you are comfortable requesting; a web request necessarily contacts the destination site.
5. Camera and On-Device OCR
Velo may ask for camera access so you can scan physical pages to read them. The app uses the camera only for scans you start, and the text recognition (OCR) runs on your device.
- Scanning and OCR happen on-device; Velo does not upload your photos or scans.
- Velo does not continuously monitor your camera or photo library.
- You can change camera permission in iOS Settings at any time; scanning needs camera access to work.
6. No Analytics, No Tracking
Velo contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and no third-party analytics services. Velo does not build user profiles, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell or share your personal information. Because of this, Velo's App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected."
7. Purchases and Apple
Velo offers Velo Unlimited through Apple App Store in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment transaction and manages subscriptions. Velo does not receive your full payment card number or your identity.
Purchase and entitlement status is validated through Apple's StoreKit on your device so Velo knows whether Velo Unlimited is active. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings, and use Restore Purchases in the app to recover access.
8. Service Providers
Velo relies on a minimal set of providers to operate app features:
- Apple, for App Store distribution, iOS permissions, in-app purchase, and Apple Account subscription management.
- The website you choose to import from, which receives the direct web request for that page — this is not a Velo provider, but is contacted at your request.
Velo does not use a backend server, an analytics provider, or a third-party AI service.
9. Your Choices and Data Deletion
- You can decline camera permission, though page scanning needs camera access to work.
- You can change camera and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can delete any individual document from your library within the app.
- You can remove all remaining local app data by deleting Velo from your device.
- You can manage or cancel Velo Unlimited through your Apple Account subscription settings.
- You can contact support with privacy questions at [email protected].
10. Security
Velo keeps your reading data on your device and relies on platform security controls provided by iOS and Apple. Web import requests use the standard secure transport offered by the destination site. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure.
11. Data Retention
- Records you create in Velo stay on your device until you delete them in the app or delete the app; device backups you control may retain copies.
- Support emails and their attachments are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterward for our records.
- Subscription status is handled by Apple through StoreKit and is retained under Apple's policies for as long as needed to manage your entitlement.
12. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, and EEA)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar laws, you have rights over your personal data. Because Velo is local-first, most of your data stays on your device and is not held by Soldra, so many of these rights are exercised directly on your device by viewing, editing, exporting, or deleting your data in the app or by deleting the app.
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Delete your personal data ("right to erasure").
- Restrict or object to certain processing of your personal data.
- Receive your data in a portable format where technically feasible.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Where Soldra processes limited personal data (for example, support emails or subscription status), our legal bases are: your consent (such as allowing notifications); performance of a contract (providing the app and any subscription you buy); our legitimate interests (operating, securing, and supporting the app); and compliance with legal obligations. To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.
13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA. Velo does not sell or share your personal information, and has not done so in the preceding 12 months. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would require an opt-out.
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information is collected and how it is used.
- Request access to or deletion of your personal information.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share).
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
Because Velo keeps your records on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app. For other requests, contact [email protected].
14. Children
Velo is a general-audience reading tool and is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Velo collects no data and has no account, it does not build profiles of any user.
15. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated when the app, legal requirements, purchase setup, or data practices change. The effective date above shows when this version took effect.
