How the RSVP speed reader works

Velo turns anything you want to read into a focused stream of single words. Three steps take you from "I'll never finish this" to reading it in a fraction of the time.

01

Bring something to read

Paste text, import a PDF or EPUB, save a web article, or scan a page with your camera. Velo extracts the words on your device — nothing is uploaded.

02

Read one word at a time

Velo flashes each word in place with the Optimal Recognition Point letter pinned in coral. Your eyes never move, so there's no backtracking or drift.

03

Push your pace

Set your speed from 100 to 1000 WPM. Smart pauses handle punctuation and long words, and a 3-2-1 countdown with ghost replay eases you back in on resume.

A speed reader and a reading library in one.

Most speed reading apps stop at flashing words. Velo keeps the whole job in one place: import anything, read it one word at a time, explore the full document when you need to, and see how much time you're saving — all without an account or the cloud.

01

Focused RSVP reading

Words flash in a fixed spot with the ORP pinned in coral, plus smart pauses, an optional haptic rhythm, and a countdown with ghost replay when you resume.

02

Import anything

Paste text, PDFs, EPUB books, web articles extracted on-device, and camera scans with on-device OCR — plus a share extension and Files support.

03

Explore & track

Read and search the full document in Content Explorer, resume precisely where you left off, and watch words read, time saved, your streak, and best WPM.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about RSVP reading, comprehension, what you can import, and how Velo keeps your reading private.

What is RSVP speed reading and how does Velo work?

RSVP stands for Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. Instead of moving your eyes across lines of text, Velo flashes your reading one word at a time in a fixed spot, so your eyes never have to travel or jump backward. One letter — the Optimal Recognition Point (ORP) — stays pinned in a coral accent color at the exact position your brain recognizes a word fastest, which keeps every word anchored and lets you read with less effort.

Does speed reading with Velo hurt comprehension?

Velo is built to protect comprehension rather than sacrifice it. It adds smart pauses that slow down naturally at commas, sentence ends, paragraphs, long words, and numbers so you never lose the thread, and the pinned ORP letter removes the side-to-side eye movement that tires you out. You start at a comfortable speed and push your words-per-minute up gradually, and a 3-2-1 countdown with a ghost replay of the last two words eases you back in every time you resume.

What can I import and speed read in Velo?

You can bring almost anything to read. Paste text directly, import PDFs and EPUB books, save web articles (Velo extracts just the article text on your device), scan physical book pages with your camera using on-device OCR, share to Velo from any app, or open files straight from the Files app. A Content Explorer lets you read, search, and jump around the full document, then drop back into speed reading exactly where you were.

Is Velo private? Does it collect my data?

Velo is private by design. It has no servers, no account, and no analytics, so your documents, progress, and reading habits never leave your iPhone. The only time Velo touches the network is to fetch a web page you explicitly ask it to import, and even then the article is parsed to text entirely on your device. On the App Store, Velo carries a Data Not Collected privacy label.

How fast can I read with Velo?

Velo lets you read anywhere from 100 to 1000 words per minute. Most readers move through ordinary text at roughly 200–300 WPM, so even a modest increase means finishing your reading in far less time. You set the pace with a simple speed pill, start where you are, and raise your WPM as it starts to feel comfortable. Velo also tracks your personal-best speed and the time you save versus your baseline.

Is Velo free, and how much does Velo Unlimited cost?

Velo is free to try. Velo Unlimited removes every limit — an unlimited library, full-length imports, speeds beyond 500 WPM, every theme and font, and your complete reading stats. It is offered as an auto-renewing subscription at $2.99 weekly with a 3-day free trial, $4.99 monthly, or $29.99 yearly, plus a one-time Lifetime option at $59.99. Purchases are handled securely through your Apple account.

When is Velo launching?
