Laboratory volume-unit conversion logging
Legacy records may label volume with an instrument-specific scale instead of a standard volume unit. A defensible research record preserves the original label and normalizes it only from verified instrument documentation.

Preserve provenance
- Store the original numeric value and source-unit label exactly as recorded.
- Identify the instrument model, scale definition, and documentation revision.
- Store the verified conversion factor as a separate field.
- Record the normalized laboratory volume, rounding rule, and reviewer.
Use dimensional analysis
A conversion is valid only when the source unit's definition is known. Multiply the source value by a verified factor whose units cancel to the intended standard unit. If the scale definition or instrument identity is missing, mark the normalized value as unresolved; do not infer it from a familiar label.
Why the canonical URL remains
This page retains its established URL so older links resolve, but its subject is now strictly non-operational laboratory volume-unit provenance and logging. It does not teach the use of any medical device.
