How to keep an auditable laboratory research log

A strong log lets another reviewer reconstruct what was recorded, when, from which source, and what later changed.

Safety scope: Laboratory research calculation, inventory, and record keeping only. No human or animal medical, dosing, administration, injection, treatment, or usage guidance.

Minimum record fields

Correct without erasing

Preserve the original entry, add a timestamped correction, state the reason, and identify the reviewer. Missing information should stay visibly missing until a sourced correction is available.

Connect records

Link calculations to the relevant sample and inventory record, and link observations to their checkpoint. Reconcile totals against the underlying entries and investigate discrepancies rather than silently changing values.

Peptide stores these records locally and can produce a readable export. It does not interpret observations or choose experimental actions.
